January 6** Paula Nadelstern - "Fabricadabra: Simple Quilts, Complex Fabrics" - Quilts of simple shapes can be transformed into dramatic visual spectacles using intricate, charismatic fabrics. Paula explains her design strategies, including the roles of symmetry, templates, repetitions and camouflaged seams. Paula showcases quilts with illustrations revealing the simple layouts and a discussion about designing fabric.

February 3* Ashley Bandy and Sandi Curd. Tips From Long Arm Quilters - This presentation focuses on tips and pointers from our own TQP long arm quilters to members who are planning to bring their quilt top to a long arm quilter for quilting. Ashley and Sandi will tell you what you need to know for best success, from recommended fabric and fabric combinations, to how to avoid wavy borders, to batting choices, to when to select a tighter or wider quilting pattern, and much more. 

March 3* Members Share Tips & Techniques - Four demos and lessons from TQP members. Gayle J. will cover Short Cuts (flying geese and half square triangles). Kathy G. will cover Quilting Hacks From the Dollar Store. Sarah K. will cover Mitered Bindings. Ruth R. will cover Paperless Paper Piecing. 

April 7*** Brita Nelson. Every Last Crumb, An Adventure in Scrap Quilting - This is a fun, informative and inspirational trek to find the best way to handle a mountain of leftover fabric. Brita had over 30 years of accumulated scraps, which threatened to take over her sewing room and consume her. She had to do something. With over two dozen quilts and projects, Brita will demonstrate some great ways to use that secret treasure hiding in your home. She will also cover basic color and contrast principles to make your scrap beauties really shine.

May 5 Meeting will take place at the Montgomery Museum of Art and History - We will be given an insider tour of the historical quilt exhibit that will be shown as part of their 250th anniversary of our county. Meeting will be held in person only.

June 3 Annual Picnic at Nelly's Cave Park, Blacksburg, VA 

July 7 Jason Smith, owner and operator of White Raven Quilts right here in Blacksburg will be joining us to give a presentation on Making T-Shirt and Memory Quilts. Jason will discuss the creation of a T-shirt quilt in a couple of styles, how to prep shirts, interfacing, layout and construction. Jason is the owner and operator of White Raven Quilts in Blacksburg. He is a lifelong artist and has been a sewer and quilter for over 20 years. He specializes in quilt construction, foundation paper piecing, English paper piecing, raw edge appliqué and textile art. Jason has been a professional long arm quilter for over 10 years.

September 1* Kevin Womack live presentation Blacksburg | Community Center Color Theory 101: Have you ever looked at a color wheel and felt confused? Are you unsure when choosing colors for your projects? Join Kevin Womack on his personal journey of color exploration, as he helps to demystify the color selection process. Just why did I choose those colors for this quilt? Do those colors really go together? Learn the answers as we discuss technical terms and view multiple quilt examples that demonstrate nine different color theories. Discover the wonders of color and leave inspired to step out of your comfort zone to try new and exciting color combinations in your future quilts.

October 7 Treasure Sale Blacksburg Community Center

Come prepared to build your stash! This annual treasure sale fundraiser features quilting fabrics for sale that have been donated by TQP members and others, with all proceeds going to The Quilting Party. This year fabric will be sold by the pound, so come for some great deals. Donations of fabric welcome in advance -- contact Paula Golden to arrange pick up.

November 10 Kathleen Curtis Wilson live presentation Blacksburg Community Center

The Quiet Work of Women. In her book, The Quiet Work of Women, Wilson discusses the artistic production of women in early American craft, emphasizing the innovation and complexity of their work specific to Appalachia. Wilson explores the common visual language between 19th and 20th century textile patterns and experiments in geometric abstraction, color theory, and optical illusionism in later 20th century art and design. She will also discuss her newly released book of fiction, The Fabric of Wishful Thinking, a richly researched portrait of 1910 rural Appalachia that offers a rare look inside early Southern textile mill culture, revealing a portrait of female resilience during a period lacking legal protections for mothers and wives.

April 1 Fork Mtn Quilting/ Buyers' Spree - Melissa and Todd Cassell of Fork Mtn Quilting in Rocky Mount will be bringing the latest fabric catalogues and putting TQP members in the role of buyers for the store. *

May 6 Sew Biz / Sewing Machine Maintenance - Donna Worrell from Sew Biz in Radford will be discussing sewing machine maintenance, as well as any new and interesting developments in the shop. *

June 3 Annual Picnic. This will be in lieu of our regular monthly meeting. The annual picnic will feature a Silent Auction and Flower Pounding Activity.

July 1 Round Robin - TQP members will do rotating 15 minute demonstrations of different quilting techniques. Presenters and specific quilting techniques are as follows:

• Ashley B. - Creating a background of diamonds from a strip set

• Nancy H. - Variations and methods for making log cabin blocks

• Joselin L. - making pattern weights.

August 5 There will be no meeting due to renovations at the Blacksburg Community Center.

August 9 Paula G. has organized a trip to the Virginia Quilt Museum for a private tour of their new facility at Silver Lake Mill in Dayton, Virginia. In addition to the tour, the group will also stop at a Mennonite General Store, have a bag lunch outside the VQM, and visit Patchwork Plus and the Quiltery fabric shops.

October 7 Quilt Block Transformation Techniques - Ruth R. and Oma M.  will each present a half program on transforming quilt blocks.

November 11*** Joselin L. will do a program on visible mending and other mending trends. This meeting will take the place of our usual second Tuesday of the month meeting in order to accommodate Election Day.
